  • Bo Min Kim,
freshman at the School of New UNISTars
    Why did you choose UNIST?

    A. __ I chose UNIST because of the future possibility of UNIST. UNIST just marked its 10th anniversary of its founding, but its achievements have far exceeded expectations in such a short period. In fact, the criteria for scholarships at UNIST are higher than at other universities. Likewise, I was attracted to the our mantra of the university that aims to steadily advance through higher goals, which is represented by the university’s motto as “Charting the way for change.” I chose UNIST because I like the UNIST mantra that aims for the status of the first and best.

What are the advantages of UNIST after you have been here?

    A. __ I think that various online and offline conferences and special lectures that are actively conducted are advantages. Special lectures are conducted on various subjects including “Chemist and Restaurants.” So, if there is an interesting subject, we can join freely. I also can broaden my understanding of interesting fields by listening to some special lectures. I also like the tidy and neat campus. The campus is very eco-friendly as no cars are allowed on the UNIST campus. I also think the school promenades and paths were well-landscaped as they are well-known for being “must-go walking paths.

  • Ji Hoon Shin,
sophomore at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering
Why did you choose your major?

    A. __ I was interested in physics and chemistry since I was a middle and high school student. So, I was looking for a major those fields and found materials science and engineering. Materials science and engineering is a course that deals with the structure and characteristics of various materials and studies the development, processing, and function of new materials. It was fulfilling to satisfy my interest and passion for physics and chemistry. In particular, I learned that new materials have a great role in the Industrial Revolution and had significant effects on the scientific growth of mankind. I was fascinated with new materials as I read books about new materials and hosted university-linked R&E. In my first year, I read a lot of books about various majors and wanted to continue my studies on material science and engineering. So, I chose the Department of Materials Science and Engineering as my major.

What is your review of UNIST after one year?

    A. __ Although I chose UNIST because I wanted to, I really love everything about living at UNIST for the past year even from an objective point of view. I felt great when I received a student allowance every month during the semester. The air quality on campus is also great because the campus is eco-friendly. The Engineering Buildings and the Gamak Pond are so pretty when I strolled around UNIST at night. I am also satisfied with the research projects including the scholarship scheme, BTS, and UIRP, and school facilities such as UCRF.
