Specialized Universities’ Cultural Venue!

STadium, A Sports-Driven Cultural Exchange among Science and Technology Specialized Universities

The first STadium*, a sports competition and cultural exchange event among the six major science and technology universities, was held in 2017. KENTECH took on the sport challenge for the first time, and the clubs from each university showcased their skills in exchange competitions that were richer than before.

UNIST, the Shining Moment of the Overall Victory in Badminton and Baseball

UNIST won the overall championship with decisive victories in badminton and baseball. In the badminton mixed doubles, Seo Min-soo and Lee Ju-ah (Department of Electrical Engineering) came out on top with perfect teamwork, and in the men's doubles, Seo Jun-hyuk (Department of Industrial Engineering) and Hwang Hyun-seo (School of Energy and Chemical Engineering) won a fiercely contested final, solidifying their team's victory.
“Lee Ju-ah, a female player, was our team's ace,” Seo Min-soo stated. I was able to precisely attack the opponent's court's gaps because of her. The significance of teamwork was highlighted by Lee Ju-ah, who stated, “I was a little nervous when I dropped the first set, but thanks to my partner's tenacious defense, I was able to turn the game around.”
In the baseball game, “UNIST ROCKETS” won a fierce match against KAIST, and placed first with 9 runs. In the last minute of the match, Kim Sung-chan (undergraduate freshman) hit a game-tying hit to seal the victory. Additionally, Lee Dong-hyun (School of Energy and Chemical Engineering) made a daring home steal that totally altered the outcome of the match versus POSTECH.
Kim Sung-chan commented, “I'm really happy that we were able to finish the long and difficult match against KAIST with the final hit.” Recalling the anxious time, Lee Dong-hyun added, “We kept working hard in a tight match, and were finally able to score a run.” The baseball and badminton performances of UNIST were noteworthy because they demonstrated the players' perseverance and teamwork beyond mere triumph.

Football, Basketball, E-sports... UNIST's Challenge that Shined Until the End

It was disappointing to lose in the preliminary round in both soccer and e-sports competitions. But the players' perseverance in giving it their all right up until the very end was worthwhile and significant.
“We worked hard to win the championship, but the result is a little disappointing,” stated the “UNIST basketball team,” which placed second in the basketball competition. However, the most useful experience is the time spent with team players.
Moon Jeong-yoon (Department of Biomedical Engineering) and Lim Je-yeon (undergraduate freshman), who displayed an overwhelming performance in the preliminary round of the badminton women's doubles, lost in the final, unfortunately. “I believe that once my anxiety subsided, I was able to focus on the game. Regardless of the outcome, I gave the game everything we had,” Moon Jeong-yoon remarked.

The Enthusiasm and Support of the Clubs... UNIST Becomes One

UNIST's victory in the comprehensive championship at STadium was also due to the backing of UNICH and the students. The athletes' performance on the field was improved by “UNICH,” and the game became more exciting with the club's musical performance on stage. “I'm proud of what we've accomplished with the clubs,” stated Oh Ji-hyun, president of the School of Energy and Chemical Engineering club organization. Thanks to everyone's unwavering support, we won the championship."
“The students' efforts and collaboration demonstrate the unity of UNIST,” stated President Park Jong-rae. He added that, “More than just a victory, this accomplishment will be seen as a turning point in UNIST's history, demonstrating their unity in achieving new triumphs.”
